Jim Stafford

Jim Stafford is an associate principal at Perkins+Will, which just received a National Building Museum Honor Award for civic innovation. He’s been practicing architecture in Southern California for more than 40 years, and his recent design work includes large-scale projects in India, Korea, China and Saudi Arabia. Below, he answers our In The Green Room Q&A.

Q. Where would we find you at 10 a.m. on a typical Saturday?

A. At a computer working on a 3-D model.

Q. What music have you listened to today?

A. Nothing.

Q. What do you consider to be the greatest simple pleasure?

A. Walking my dogs.

Q. What surprises you the most about your life right now?

A. That it’s so pleasurable.

Q. What is your fondest childhood memory?

A. Riding a log down a stream in Whittier and playing Tom Sawyer.

Q. What do you wish you had the nerve to do?

A. Skydive.

Q. Who is your favorite fictional character?

A. Peter Pan.

Q. What is your favorite cocktail?

A. Martini.

Q. When do you feel most creative?

A. Early morning.

Q. What profession would you like to practice in your next life?

A. Writing.

A. Paris.

A. My Apple computer.
