Curator Suellen Cheng Takes Questions in the Green Room

Suellen Cheng is museum director and curator at El Pueblo Historical Monument and the founding curator of the Chinese American Museum. Before participating in a panel on “the creation of Chinese America,” she answered questions in our Green Room.

Q. What would we find you doing at 10 a.m. on a typical Saturday?
A. Usually I would be having breakfast with my husband out somewhere.

Q. When do you feel most creative?
A. Pretty much at midnight.

Q. How do you procrastinate?
A. Just really not pay attention.

Q. How long do you go without checking email?
A. It varies, but at most it could be a whole day.

Q. If you could take only one more journey, where would you go?
A. I would go to Egypt.

Q. If you had to give one piece of advice to someone, who would you give it to and what would the advice be?
A. It would be to a young intern, and I would encourage them to not be afraid of taking challenges.

Q. Who is the one person living or dead you would most want to meet for dinner?
A. My mother.

Q. What time do you start working on an average day?
A. 9 a.m.

Q. What was the best lesson your parents taught you?
A. Be humble.

Q. What would you eat for your last meal?
A. Chinese potstickers.
