A Night in a Farmhouse

Sleeping in a Piece of the 19th Century

I spent Tuesday night in an old farmhouse in rural Georgia, just east of the town of Commerce. The house belongs to Keith and Karen, and they were kind enough to let me use their guest bedroom. I loved the place. Karen is out of town, and Keith wasn’t home yet when I arrived. They have two dogs, a very old one and a very young one. The puppy ran to the gate when I came in, trying very hard to be a guard. The old one let out a long bark that seemed to say “if it weren’t for this arthritis I’d get up and growl at you!”

The house was built in 1865, and is tastefully decorated with antiques. The bedroom where I stayed has its own fireplace, two old school desks, a couple of quilts, and a few old photographs. There’s also a doll that is at the same time beautiful, and creepy. It hangs on the door, right in front of the bed. It stared at me all night, with its arms stretched out, as if asking for a hug. Sleeping in this house made for a very memorable evening. I was so taken with the setting, that I made this video. I hope you enjoy it.
