A Lover of Cereal, Salsa, and Mark Twain

In the Green Room with Dr. Marcia Sablan

Dr. Marcia Sablan has been a family physician in Firebaugh, California for three decades and is a First 5 Fresno County commissioner. Before participating in a panel on rural healthcare in California, she talked about her Midwestern roots and her secrets to dinner party success.

Q. What was your first job?

A. A sales clerk at Famous-Barr in St. Louis. It’s a department store chain in the Midwest.

Q. What do you eat for breakfast?

A. Cereal, always.

Q. What’s the best day of the week?

A. Wednesday. We usually have a half-day of work on Wednesdays.

Q. What’s the last thing that made you laugh?

A. Thinking about my son’s imitations.

Q. What is your favorite condiment?

A. Salsa.

Q. If you could have a beer with anyone, living or dead, who would you choose?

Q. What makes you feel nostalgic?

A. Thinking about college and the Midwest.

Q. What’s the secret to a good dinner party?

A. It’s always the people-not so much the food. You can always order out for food.

A. Dessert.

Q. What was your last big purchase?

A. My dress for my daughter’s wedding.
