Hollywood Boulevard Vignes Street

Downtown L.A. is Beautiful, Incredible, and Always Alive

Ricky Medina

I’m from Chihuahua, Mexico. I’ve been here for 10 years. I moved here by myself. I miss my mom. I miss many things, but mostly my mom.

I’m coming from work. I’m a line cook at a pizza restaurant. I work from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., six days a week. I take Metro to Union Station and then it’s a 10-minute walk home. I’ve lived in Downtown L.A. for three years—it’s beautiful, incredible. It’s always alive.

I want to be a business owner someday—that gets me going in the morning. Some people drink beer after work, but I drink kefir. I’ll be up early tomorrow for work again. I need to make sure I make good choices.
