I’m Pretty Good at Imagining Colors

Sheila Walker

I just signed up for a mosaic tile art class at the Braille Institute. I love using my hands and making beautiful things for people. I’m pretty good at imagining colors. When I think of red, I think of hot and fiery and just sassy. When I think of yellow, I think of chilling.

I love getting around on my own. I walk around and I feel with my cane where the edge marks with the big dots are—that’s how I know if I’m too close to the train. I have confidence and great cane skills, so I’m not afraid of getting disoriented. I just stop, think, and start over.
