Reading the Bible Prepares Me to Brave the Traffic

Firas Fakhouri

I’ve been doing this commute for about three years. I’m coming from Manhattan Beach. I’m an engineer at an aerospace company—I test products before they go out on market.

I’m originally from Jordan. I moved here in 1983 with my parents and my brothers. Moving to the U.S. was nerve-racking—new country, new language. I’ve been back to Jordan a couple of times, but my home is in L.A. now. This is where my family is.

I read the Bible and motivational books while I’m on the train. I feel like that prepares me to brave the traffic on the drive home from Norwalk to Glendora, which is about one hour.
