Poems

from Field Recording

by Junior Clemons

honesty exists in the midwest—
what is said if asked: there are horses
and they encourage moments
of self-reflection. old men are temporary.
time the precision of a compass;
imagine a semi-circle or

some summer spent in mississippi
drinking apple juice out of jam jars.
in this moment we don’t have jars
for anything. instead, we cup our hands

there are actually two people here
(if composed then) collapsed onto you.
where is it coming from? the eye.
easily seduced to keep going
