Hasan Ikhrata is executive director of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG). Before participating in a panel on the future of the 710 Freeway, he talked Shrek, smoking, and an ugly swing in the Zócalo green room.
What do you wake up to?
Work.
If you had an extra hour in the day, what would you do with it?
Spend it with my kids.
What’s the ugliest piece of furniture you own?
A swing. The wind got rid of the top, so it looks like a piece of metal swinging around.
How do you like your coffee?
Black with sugar.
What movie have you re-watched most?
Because I have young kids, I’ve seen Shrek the most—not by choice.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Be true to what you say.
Who was your childhood hero?
My father.
How do you relax?
Watching a good movie.
What’s the last habit you tried to kick?
Smoking. [Did it work?] Yes—four years.

On the freeway—going home.
