We are excited to announce two new members of the Zócalo Public Square Board of Trustees: former California gubernatorial press secretary Margita Thompson and Cal Poly Pomona College of Environmental Design dean emeritus Michael Woo.

Thompson has extensive communications and media experience, including serving as press secretary for California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger from 2003–2006, working at the White House in the Office of the Vice President as press secretary to Lynne Cheney, and producing for Larry King Live. Her accomplishments also include delivering a “Top 10” list on Late Night with David Letterman

Woo, an urban planner, was dean of the Cal Poly Pomona College of Environmental Design from 2009–2019 and the first Asian American elected to the Los Angeles City Council. He has participated in Zócalo discussions on the future of L.A. newspapers and how to create a more integrated city, and in 2021 he wrote a Zócalo essay on the 150th anniversary of the Chinese massacre of 1871.

The Zócalo Board of Trustees is an advisory board that currently consists of 19 members with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Zócalo Public Square is a unit of ASU Media Enterprise committed to connecting people to ideas and to each other.
