Zócalo is a thriving Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization and a creative unit of Arizona State University dedicated to connecting people to ideas and to each other. Our mission is to create a welcoming intellectual space in real life and online by convening smart live programs and publishing thoughtful, wide-ranging essays. We are a high-spirited team partnering with some of the country’s most prestigious intellectual enterprises.
Since our founding in 2003, we have presented over 600 programs in 33 cities, nine states, and six countries. We syndicate our journalism to 290 media outlets worldwide and co-present programs with the Smithsonian Institution, the Getty Museum, and KCRW, among others.
The Programming and Operations Assistant will provide key support in the day-to-day operations of Zócalo Public Square while assisting with all facets of putting together engaging public programs. He or she will work with our programming team to coordinate event logistics and production; schedule speakers and arrange travel; keep track of expenses and reimbursements; manage receipts and accounts payable and receivable; assist with audience relations; help staff our events; and handle audience Q&A.
This job requires a person who has a strong interest in culture and current events, and is creative and tenacious at everything from operational tasks to organizing schedules with many moving parts.

This position will work collaboratively with Zócalo’s programming staff and volunteers as well as with editorial staff in the office. The Programming and Operations Assistant must be able to work out of Zócalo’s offices in downtown Los Angeles, and commit to long hours, occasional weekend and evening work, and some domestic and international travel.
Pay and benefits are competitive. This position will be employed by Arizona State University and eligible to participate in a full range of benefits, including health care and retirement.
