Public Policy Expert Pete Peterson Takes Questions in the Green Room

Pete Peterson is Executive Director of the Davenport Institute for Public Engagement and Civic Leadership at Pepperdine’s School of Public Policy and co-facilitates the training seminar “Leadership through Civic Engagement” for California government officials. Before participating on a panel about why Californians don’t talk about politics, he took questions in our Green Room.

Q. What do you do to exercise?
A. I work out, lift weights, jog occasionally, hit golf balls, nap. That’s part of health, I think.

Q. What is your cocktail of choice?
A. I usually drink beer, and if I drink something harder it’s usually single-malt Scotch, neat.

Q. What is your favorite city on earth?
A. A tie, I would say, between New York and Sydney.

Q. What do you eat for breakfast?
A. I eat Trader Joe’s O’s.

Q. What was your first job?
A. Working in a deli, making sandwiches. I was the guy putting together the sloppy joes and the sub sandwiches.

Q. What was the last great book you read?
A. The Reason for God, by Tim Keller.

Q. What is your favorite type of weather?
A. About 65 degrees, gray and humid.

Q. How often do you Google yourself?
A. I usually Google the institute, and I probably do that about every two weeks.

Q. What is your favorite technological gadget?
A. I’m not a big tech guy, but my Droid phone, which I use as a GPS, which got me here today.

Q. What is your primary source of news?
A. As far as mode, it’s the internet. As far as channels, it’s Real Clear Politics.
