Maya Stepien is an illustrator and graphic designer based in Amsterdam. She is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, and has created illustrations for clients including Google, Monocle, Wired UK, Bloomberg, and Monotype. While her work fits the current fashion of flat geometrics rendered in a range of forceful pastels, it rests on a foundation of quirky, old-fashioned character drawings. It’s as if the Aardman world of Wallace and Gromit had been reborn as art deco posters. Her drawings for Zócalo bring this aesthetic to the briny deep.
