Fairfax Avenue Virgil Avenue

A Transcendental Train Ride

Julius Herico

I work at a nursing home, exercising patients to help them move better. I’m originally from the Philippines; I’ve been in L.A. for 10 years. The traffic is worse back home. The weather is similar both places. I don’t get too homesick because I work with a lot of Filipinos. And there’s lots of places to buy Filipino food here.

I meditate on my commute. I choose a place in the train where there are few passengers. I just sit there and start looking around. And then I’ll start thinking about the sea, because it makes me calm. I started meditating in high school. It keeps me free from stress and relaxed.
