L.A. has been Really Good to Me

Juan Mejía

L.A. has been really good to me. I came here almost nine years ago for work. But I miss everything about Guatemala, everything. My parents, my sister, my family. I miss them all.

I don’t like walking out in dirty construction clothes so I always change for the bus ride home to Koreatown. I enjoy sitting down after working on my feet all day. When I’m riding the bus home, I’m at peace that I got my work done. I’m remodeling a kitchen now and I’m really happy with how it’s turning out. I also think about dinner. I usually go to a restaurant near where I live for my favorite, pescado al mojo de ajo (fish in garlic sauce).
