I’ve been riding the public transit in Los Angeles since I arrived here from San Francisco in 1972, when it was called RTD. I go all over—from Silver Lake to Del Cerro Park at the end of Crenshaw Boulevard in Palos Verdes, which has an extraordinary view of the Pacific; to to the Korean Peace Bell in San Pedro; to the Watts Towers; to Leimert Park.
I do crossword puzzles. I read. I bring my little Walkman, which is a throwback to the ’80s! I listen to Larry Mantle.
